Largest Producing Countries: North America is one of the largest celery growing country. So also it is grown in Europe. It is grown in some countries with temperate climate. Earlier the plant was during winter and early spring now the season extends from early September to late April.
Traditional Use: The use of celery seed dates back to 30 AD. Aulus Cornelius Celsus, wrote the medical book, De Medicina. In that he had recommended the use of celery seeds as a relief for pain. Celery has always been used as a vegetable especially during early spring and winter. It was said to act as a counter for the winter diet which was generally rich in salt. The salt sickness was countered by it. It was used in garlands as seen in the tombs of Egyptian rulers.
